Chinchillas can be quite delicate, so they really need more care and careful handling...
Life Span - 15-20years (10-14 inches/without tail)
Housing - Chinchillas are very active and they really love to jump about, so the larger the cage the better, get a flat bottom. multi levelled with jumping platforms and ramps (cat cage)
Character and Care - Chinchillas need to be handle gently from young to tame them easily. Hold them with both hands, one hand under supporting both feet and another hand on top of your chinchilla to make it feel secure (some of them don't like to be handled though) Chinchillas are nocturnal so they are active during the night, they really tend to over heat easily so keep them in a place where there is a lot of air flow. Chinchillas can be kept alone or in pairs of the same sex.
Bedding - No Pine or cedar (like all small animals), use dried shavings or carefresh.
Feeding and bite toys - Chinchilla pellets and good amount of timothy hay, small amount of dried fruits. Change fresh water everyday. Chewing toys to keep teeth in good condition.
Dust bath - 20mins every day or once every 2 days.
